CALL FOR PAPERS: SoCS 2017
SoCS-17: the 10th International Symposium on Combinatorial Search
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, June 16-17, 2017 (co-located with ICAPS-2017)
CALL FOR LATE-BREAKING POSTERS
Submission deadline: 11:59PM UTC-12, May 7, 2017.Submission web site (EasyChair)
To encourage the exchange and discussion of new and recent work on combinatorial search, we encourage authors to submit proposals for presentation of posters on recent results, work-in-progress, or work which has recently (within the past 12 months) appeared in or is under review at other venues (conferences/journals).
As a poster proposal, please submit either a paper (or extended abstract) of 1 or more pages.
For work which has already been accepted to or published elsewhere, please state the venue in the submission.
Papers/abstracts for these presentations will NOT be included in the SoCS proceedings.Submissions will be screened for relevance to the SoCS community and suitability. We will try to accommodate as many relevant, suitable presentations as possible, but if the number of submissions exceeds the capacity, it might not be possible to accept all presentations, in which case the program chairs will prioritize/select presentation proposals in order to achieve good overall program balance.
Late-breaking poster proposal submission deadline: May 7
Notification: May 9
We accept applications for travel funding. Please check travel support for details.
We currently accept submissions only for the late breaking poster track described above. The submission deadlines for the other categories described below have been passed already.
Heuristic search and other forms of combinatorial search are very active areas of research in artificial intelligence, planning, robotics, constraint programming, operations research, bioinformatics, and other areas of computer science. SoCS is meant to bring researchers from these areas together to exchange ideas and cross-fertilize the field.
In 2017, SoCS is collocated with the 27th International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling (ICAPS 2017).

PAPER SUBMISSION
We encourage researchers to submit two categories of papers to the symposium:
- Original long (up to 8 pages plus up to one page of references) and short (up to 4 pages plus up to one page of references) papers. We welcome technical papers that report substantial original research as well as position papers discussing ideas and concepts related to search. Examples of position papers could include thoughtful critiques of the field, historical perspectives and analysis, technical discussions of various implementation techniques, methodological contributions, and insightful reports on new and demanding applications.
- Extended abstracts. To foster the exchange of ideas at SoCS, we encourage authors to submit extended abstracts of original work, work-in-progress, or work which has appeared in or is under review at other venues such as AAAI/IJCAI.
Submission web site (EasyChair)
All submissions must be formatted in the AAAI style whose guidelines are available at the following link.
Requirements
Original Long and Short Papers
Original papers will be rigorously peer-reviewed. SoCS 2017 will follow a double-blind review process for original papers, and hence authors of original papers are required to omit author information from their submissions and anonymize obvious self-references. Non-anonymous submissions may be rejected without review.
Long papers may be up to 8 pages in length, plus an additional page for references only. Short papers may be up to 4 pages, plus an additional page for references only. Long and short original papers should be new work which has not been published in (nor currently simultaneously under review at) any other archival publication venue. Papers that do not follow these requirements will be rejected without review.
Extended Abstracts
The publication of a research abstract in the SoCS 2017 proceedings generally allows publishing a full paper on the same line of research at SoCS 2018 or other venues.
The extended abstract submissions will be lightly reviewed in order
to ensure that they are of interest to the SoCS community. The
submitted version of the extended abstract can be up to 8 pages, plus
an additional page for references only. However, if the extended
abstract submission is accepted, only 2 pages (including references)
will be allocated in the SoCS 2017 proceedings. The submitted version
itself will not be reprinted in the proceedings.
Abstracts of papers which are under double-blind review in another
conference must be anonymous (names and affiliations must not appear
in the submitted PDF). In particular, submissions of papers under
revision in IJCAI17 must be anonymous. However, abstracts of work
which is not under double-blind review elsewhere may include authors'
identifying information.
